One of our charity partners (Flinders Medical Centre) for the first time in five years of running Inspired Adventures actually asked me to fundraise for the Vietnam Cycle Challenge I am leading in October this year. This is the essence of fundraising, don’t ask don’t get!
So I am Giving Prostate Cancer the Finger! A cheeky little sub-header for the Vietnam Cycle Challenge.
I could have said I was too busy but what I love about this challenge is that the the money raised will go towards funding a three-year PhD scholarship for prostate cancer research which will focus on developing new molecular markers to assist in the detection of pre-cancerous cells as well as targeted prostate cancer treatment.
We love it when we can say exactly where the money raised from trips will go, it makes the ‘ask’ more powerful and I agree with Seth Godin, asking people to donate money to fight cancer can be overwhelming but asking them to fund an individuals PhD scholarship in research is inspirational (what if this is the team that has the breakthrough?)
Asking people to give prostate cancer the finger, well, that’s a whole separate blog post
Collectively your small donation will help Flinders Medical Centre fund research that will save the lives of fathers, brothers & sons. FMCF raises money for vital medical research and equipment for the FMC, to improve the quality of life for present and future generations.
Please donate online at http://www.everydayhero.com.au/inspiredadventures
Funds raised support more than 400 medical researchers that are based at Flinders, many of whom are world leaders in areas such as cancer, heart and degenerative diseases, to name but a few.
The Foundation is also working to build the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC), which will be the first comprehensive cancer centre focusing on the science of cancer prevention in Australia.
The FCIC will bring the brightest minds and kindest hearts together under the one roof to change the face of cancer.
Thanks (Now I will leave you alone for another year or until another client asks me to fundraise for them)

The largest ever such study included 26,651 prostate cancer patients, 5,623 of whom came from families in which the disease had been diagnosed before.
And the researchers calculated that men up to an age of 65 years with three affected brothers have a risk that is 23 times higher than that of the control group
